Paying Attendees with ESS

Studio 54 Events published with ESS

It doesn’t happen very often, but once in a while there is a n  event   where an attendee is paid for his/her presence. Take for example,  an open call to fill a nightclub in order to film a scene for a movie. Often, productions will take advantage of busy nightclubs to shoot background footage or “B roll” in the case of interviews and documentaries, giving patrons a nominal fee to drink and dance. Not a bad deal right? See below to see how such a sweet offer can be represented in ESS.

Belfast Film Festival: A Series of Strange Settings

Belfast film

The Belfast Film Festival is not often mentioned in the same breath as the Venice, Cannes and Toronto film festivals, but it is certainly one of the most original film fests of its kind. Over the course of two weeks, attendees have the chance to see horror films and thrillers in a wide range of different venues ranging from libraries and parks to cathedrals and grand old movie houses. The prices changes for each events. The show times of each feature are different as are the location and the titles of the films. They belong to the same festival, but they are a series of separate happenings. How does ESS manage it so that they are grouped and aggregated together and how would the publisher go about listing such a series of related events each with a different start time and location? See below to find out.

ESS and Recursivity: The Traveling Circus!

Funny Clowns

One of the biggest problems there is when trying to post information about an event is what to do when the event doesn't follow a linear, normal trajectory. For example, a circus that is going to be in town for a weekend in June before going away to neighboring towns and then coming back in July. That circus  has  to let its  local public know that they  will be back and the event is temporarily finished, but will be starting again later, not an easy task when publishing an event online. The event is neither finished nor continuing but rather something recursive that will be happening at a later date. Through other channels like RSS and iCal publishers would have to republish the event in a separate listing. That's where ESS makes the job easier with a special function for recursivity that allows the publisher to publish separate date elements in the same event listing. More info on how this event can be published with ESS here: http://essfeed.org
